Background
Toni Sutherland is the founder and principal of Alta Investment Group, based in Aptos, California. Over a career spanning more than 20 years, she has built a practice focused on helping investors defer capital gains taxes, generate passive income, and diversify concentrated wealth through 1031 exchanges, Delaware Statutory Trusts, and related tax-advantaged strategies.
Before founding Alta Investment Group, Toni worked as a financial planner with American Express Financial Advisors in Silicon Valley, and spent five years at Smith Barney (a division of Citigroup) in Capitola and Palo Alto — where she established 401(k) investment programs for thousands of employees and managed stock portfolios for high-net-worth individuals. She later became an independent registered representative with Emerson Equity LLC, through which securities are offered today.
Her team has bought, sold, managed, and/or brokered more than $900 million of commercial, retail, industrial, multifamily, resort, and office real estate. Toni holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Santa Cruz and brings a strong background in both financial and estate planning to every client engagement.
